We want to build a contempory custom green home in Highland Park near the lake. Can anyone recommend a builder that is excellent at his/her craft and who understands how to work with sophisticated buyers that expect excellence and service. We're looking to spend about $200.00 psf excluding the land.
Have you already built your home? This is a very old question, but I just happened onto it and thought if you haven't already started your project, I'd chime in...I have a listing at Deerpath Farm that is already built, absolutely gorgeous and an incredible value at about $260 p.s.f. including the land. Demari homes built it, it was just finished in January of 2009. Check out 26115 Farwell in Mettawa. Deerpath Farm is a conservation community with 140 acres of open space managed by Lake Forest Open Lands.
Alternately I've looked into prefab homes by some very slick architects...there is a group in Minneapolis that designed the wee house, they are called Alchemy Architects and they have some wonderful ideas. Also FlatPak houses are GORGEOUS, maybe a bit more pricey, but really interesting and they go up in a matter of maybe a couple of weeks once the foundation is done. Good luck! And please call and let me know how it's going (or how it went) for you...847-922-4119, or e-mail me cynthia.maloney@bairdwarner.com
We have built many homes and subdivisions in Highland Park. My name is Michael Berke and I am President of Berke Homes. Please go to our website at http://www.berkehomes.net. Also, I am a LEED Accredited Professional, which is the highest certification you can receive for Green Building. I would enjoy hearing about your plans.
Here is a builder who not only builds luxury homes, but also builds Green Homes. These can be true zero energy homes (complete with solar shingles) or just "Green" homes. I've attached their website below, but if you want to explore a meeting with them, please let me know. My phone and e-mail are 847-557-1622 or mstodola@ksgmac.com. I hope this is helpful.
Here is a builder that got their start in contemporary homes in the 70's There are many examples of their "nordic" style home throughout the western burbs including my own community. They have since expanded into doing traditional homes. They have always been a leader in engergy efficiency with their 2x6 insulated exterior walls and are also a green builder.
Here is a link to their webpage & please tell them the MortgageAdvisor referred you.
