Broad Ripple: safe?

Asked by Erin Bahrt, Chicago, IL Sun Jun 2, 2013

I know Broad Ripple is known for its bars, clubs and night life (among other things), and though I've never partaken in these activities and it isn't the reason for me looking at a house in the neighborhood, I'm wondering if the area is generally safe or does it attract crime? I've heard from friends that Broad Ripple is "scary," and before I even seriously look at a house in the neighborhood, I wanted to check on here and see what others thought.

The best thing you can do is check this out by going to that area and seeing for yourself. What might be scary for one person is not for another. There are also websites you can check. http://www.indy.gov and http://www.CrimeReports.com . When you are ready to start the process in finding your dream home give me a call. If you have anymore questions feel free to call or email me.

Erin, Broad Ripple is one of these safest areas in the city. There is almost always a police presents there, and they are building a police sub station on the corner of College and Westfeild in the new parking garage.

I like Broad Ripple. I think it is safe. However I still would not walk that strip late at night by myself being a female. If you are talking about the area itself then yeah it is pretty safe, low crime. If you need an agent call Jamelle Walker. He is really good. He is my agent. His number is 317-453-0917. email jamellewalker2002@yahoo.com
website jamellewalker.kwrealty.com

Jamelle is really good and I personally recommend him. Check out his website it is pretty good at breaking down areas and has links to take you to the areas personal page. He is good at what he does, give him a call. He will help you with all your questions. He helped me.

Best of luck

Generally all home owners I have worked with and talked to in the area say they feel it is necessary to have a burglar alarm, but I encourage you to check the crime stats on the Indianapolis metro police site. Also I can think of a neighborhood that may be a good fit as well.

If you have any questions feel free to call.

Hi Erin,

Broad Ripple has no more crime than similar communities in Marion County, except for some minor issues that are isolated to the Broad Ripple Avenue bar area. Data is available at http://www.spotcrime.com/in/indianapolis

The property you are considering is sufficiently removed from the active night life area that you should experience no issues.

I grew up in the Broad Ripple area & I have friends, family & clients who live in this area & would not live anywhere else. Broad Ripple is also very pro-active about fighting crime. You can check out the website for Broad Ripple Village @
The BRVA continually works to ensure that the Broad Ripple area is a safe place for residents, businesses and visitors. Elements of the BRVA’s comprehensive public safety strategy include a neighborhood crime watch program, partnership with IMPD, lighting improvements and beautification. Great question. I think the best thing you can do is look at the data. What might be "safe" to one person may very well be "scary" to another.

Here's the best place I know to look: http://www.indy.gov/CrimeWatch/CrimeReports/Pages/CrimeRepor…

Good luck in your search!

Erin, I think that where you live in Broad Ripple will make a great deal of difference in safety. Some areas are much safer than others, although there is some crime in Broad Ripple and much of it is brought on by the clubs and bars, that does not represent Broad Ripple as a whole and it can be a very safe place to be. The house you are interested in should be in a very safe area. The neighborhoods north of Broad Ripple are much safer than many south of Broad Ripple.

Give me a call, text or email, Erin. I'd love to help you find the perfect home for you - AND the safe one!

I have always considered Broad Ripple to be a generally safe residential area. One must be cautious and prudent anywhere now-a-day. if you have concerns, you can always look on line for the crime rate statistics, etc. and compare them to other areas.
