Hi Faye:
As Maggie mentioned, you probably have not signed an Agency Form recognizing the Realtor as yet and, even if you did, the Agency Agreement is in no way a contract between you and the Realtor, just a statement that you understand the role of that particular Realtor for a specific transaction. Usually the Realtor will not ask you to sign anything until you have found something you wish to purchase. The Seller pays the Realtor's commission, not the buyer.
If you wish to buy a FSBO and do not want to have a Realtor represent you, then you can do so, but I would not advise such a purchase. There are too many legal implications not to have someone representing you and your best interest. If you find a FSBO and wish to use a Realtor, the Realtor can have the seller's agree to pay a commission and have them sign a form stating such. Most FSBO's will agree especially if they know there's a buyer already involved.
Whatever you do, please have someone representing you, whether it be a Realtor or your own real estate attorney. Good Luck in finding your new home!
