As a foreigner , can I buy a house in Florida?
What kind of visa should myself and family have and how long can I spend in my home per year? I want to stay there as much as I can.

If you get a visitor visa, you may stay for up to six months per year. You will not be entitled to live in the US simply because you own property in the US.
There are a range of work visas that you may consider; however, they all require that a US employer sponsor you. You might consider applying for permanent residence if you have close relatives in the US to sponsor you. And finally, if you are a person of extraordinary abilities in a certain field of expertise, you might be able to sponsor yourself for a green card. However, you would have to be very prominent in your field and very good at what you do. Mon Jun 2 2008, 13:05

From the answers previously given, you certainly have much to consider. However, consider not only the right visa to enter and purchase property but consider your long term intentions and plan.
Working with a professional that can not only help you find the right way to purchase and obtain financing as a foreign national but also on how to best hold title to the property can easily help you transition later into all kinds of opportunities in the USA, including residency and more. The first move will be your most important move, however. Be careful to not make the mistake of taking your approach lightly since correcting the way you first enter and hold title could be costlier and take longer to fix. Do not hesitate to contact me so I can guide you and help you ensure many happy investing years in the USA. Hola Paolo! Yes, indeed, you can buy a house in Florida. With your regular tourist passport, you can only spend three months per year here in Florida. However, you can visit the American embassy in Buenos Aires and they will assist you with applying for a visa, which will allow you to stay for longer periods of time. Take a look at some of the amazing deals we have in my area of expertise: http://www.brevardmls.com/brv/maildoc/b005BT6383.html

Paolo,
Of course you can. I am guessing by your answer though that you do not want to immigrate. If so then Lars below is correct about the visa's. I work with some international buyers now but, they are all wanting to immigrate. That is a long process since they have to work through the American Embassy in their respective countries. I have been working with one in particular for 5 months and it will be another 4 months before they come over. The websites posted below are a good start for you. Just work out in your mind how much time you want to spend here. Sat May 17 2008, 09:41

the time restraints on your stay could be two things, the home you buy (condo hotel) if you want to rent it out when you are not using it or your visa. I deal with a lot of buyers from Europe who are staying here for 3 month at a time and they can then apply for an extension visa. Check with the us embassy in your country. If you run in to any problems, send me an e-mail and I can get you in touch with a great imigration lawyer.

Sounds like a vacation rental / 2nd home is what you want. Then you can also rent it out when you are away. The websites provided by my colleague will help you with specifics, but it's a great time to buy, especially if you are benefiting from our weak dollar.
