Las Vegas is currently in a drought, and watering restrictions are in place from the Southern Nevada Water Authority. From now through September 30, homeowners can water any day as long as it is not between 11 AM and 7 PM. The SNWA recommends three 4-minute cycles per station. In the spring and fall watering is limited to three assigned days per week and in winter it drops to one day per week. Through the Water Smart Home program, the SNWA is working with local homebuilders to encourage drought-tolerant landscaping and water efficient appliances. Many homebuilders are now using artificial turf and xeriscaping in front yards rather than grass.

Credits from the government are a good incentive. I certainly hope the newer homes are required to use xeroscaping. Thanks for your answer.

Yes. Sprinkler systems must be set to turn on only for a certain length of time and only at a specifc time of the day. Because it is so hot here, water dries up very fast and is wasted.

Our Water Authority has allowed a $2/sqft. credit for people that are converting from a water-use yard to desert landscaping. This has helped save water to some degree.
