It really depends on how close to the marsh and the elevation of your property. There is also a difference between Northampton County and Accomac County which is the northern most county on the Eastern Shore. There are also several kinds of BUGS that come out at different times of the year. The worse is the peskey Misquitoes. They can be on either coast. Just check around the area you are looking at and make sure there is no standing water. If there is a pond close by check to see that it is flowing over a dam or simlar discharge. This will keep them to a minimum. Green Head Flys on the seaside in July and August can be pretty exciting at times but they really stay out in the marsh more than along the shore and if your home and property are well elevated they don't really bother you. Last but not least are what we call noseeems pronounced no see ems. They can be anywhere around the water but generally only come out at sunset and don't bother folks after the sun goes down.....Hope this helps....Oh but the way, at least we don't have rattlesnakes or scorpions.....All the best, Dave
