Are there any real to me people out there!? I live in the midwest, not CA or FL or DC. Around here rent
much more than buying and I certainly do not make 350k and own several homes.
I simply need a home for my 4 person family and our dog, and am getting very frustrated in the process.
I have rcvd some really good answers but how true are they to my area?

FIRST ANSWER
As you pointed out, every area is different as is everyone's financial situation.
I ask every brand new client that I take on to sit down with a mortgage lender and talk about their financials. How much house they can afford and what kind of mortagage works best for them. Then when you know what you can afford, you should find a local realtor and ask them if what you're looking for is available.
