Hi Logan,
I am the only broker in Charlotte that specializes in mid-century modern and architecturally significant homes in the greater Charlotte area. I have been working this market exclusively for 5 years and was the chair person for Charlotte's first Mid-Century Modern home tour. I suggest you work with an agent that truly understands what you are looking for and can also help suggest renovators, etc. I hope you will take a look at my website http://www.ModernCharlotte.com and contact me. I am more than happy to answer questions and get you pointed in the right direction.
Asheville has some cool mcm homes as well as interesting new construction modern. Let me know how it goes !

I actually have a 1955 modern, I have been renovating to sell this year(2009) I have had some difficulty in staying true to the materials that should be used,.but have tried to get some ideas. For instance I used glass block in the Master bath. The house is a flat roof on each end and the center of the house the roof is angled. So the LR has a high angled ceiling. This house is built solid, the good thing of homes from this era. It actually was built by an Asian man who put an Asian flair to the home, it reminds me of a Wright home.

Hello Logan,
Yes, there are mid-century modern homes in Asheville- usually you will find pockets of these homes in various older neighborhoods scattered though-out the city of Asheville. My real estate partner is a huge fan of this style. Some of the homes will need TLC to freshen-up and revive their intended architectural style. Lately, I have been seeing more of an appreciation growing in our area for this style of home. I have toured several renovated mid-century modern homes in the past year that were amazing- usually redone by local architects with a love for this style. You should be able to find renovated mid-century modern home or you could purchase one in need of renovation if you are into doing projects. This style is not the dominate style in Asheville, but there are many pockets of them around. Our area actually has a great variety of architectural styles for such a small city. I hope this was helpful.
Warm Regards,
Bonnie Gilbert

Logan,
Are you look for say Frank Lloyd Wright style. Yes, there are some homes of that style in Asheville. You can also look in the outlying suburbs like; Arden, Skyland. Also look at the area off of the Hendersonville Road that borders the Biltmore Estate land.

I use to live in Asheville actually twice in my lifetime. It is beautiful up there. Nice choice for retirement.

Hope this helps,
