Any parents with kids at Stonebrae Elementary? How much scope is there for excelling beyond the low API?

Asked by Ann, Hayward, CA Sat May 21, 2011

Would any parents or residents of Stonebrae share their observations on Stonebrae Elementary? The overall scores are better than any other school in Hayward, but with an API of 796 it is still below the California "satisfactory" level of API 800. Do you know anyone who has found it necessary to switch to private school after trying Stonebrae?

We are residents of stonebrae and are thinking of taking our two kids out of Challenger private school where they have been doing very well (one just got a scholarship of $800) and try stonebrae. I met other residents who are sending their kids and are happy about the proximity and convenience of the school. My plan is to get highly involved and encourage parents to be involved so that we can help all kids at stonebrae succeed. One way is to help the school increase online educational material for kids to personalize their learning (so that kids can learn at their pace and speed), such as introduction of the khanacademy. Los Altos school district is already trying it and there is no reason why Hayward should not do it. The push beyond the 796 API will certainly depend on parents involvement and their positive impact.
