A friend and I are considering buying a home together. Is there a chance we could both claim a tax credit, if we qualified in other respects?

The person getting the mortgage claims the tax credit. You must be a first time home buyer, or have not owned a home in the past 3 years. The new tax credit is for individuals or couples who have owned a home 5 consecutive years of the past 8 years. There are alot of outlets right now discussing the tax credit extension, and it has not been signed off by the President yet, but that will most likely happen. Please call me if I can be of any further assistance, and always check with a CPA on any other specifics of the tax credit application.

No, this would only be one tax credit per household. Please call or email me with any questions concerning your search for a home in our area. I will be glad to help you in any way possible. If you'll provide your criteria I'll search the email you homes that you might be interested in. Take care and have a great day!

It is my understanding that if you are not married then only 1 can file the claim. But please check with your accountant he should be able to qualify this for you.
