I was raised in Palatine and I feel like I know the area pretty well. I would say there is not a crime problem in that area, but it's not the nicest area in Palatine as well. I would purchase one of those townhouses if I was getting a steal and I planned on living there for 10+ years or renting it out. I would not buy it if I was buying it as a starter home due to many apartments in the area.

Just go there and look around. Also check the neighborhood around Rand Road and Dundee ( north-east corner). My opinion: it is not the best area in Palatine. Good luck.
