Hi! , we have (sort of reluctantly) decided to leave NYC as the cost of private schools is too much! Looking for somewhere liberal, artsy community (very afraid of generic suburbs) , decent restaurants, great schools (have a 4 & 2 year old). Price point around 1.5MM. Anywhere else i should be looking with a relatively quick commute (e.g. riverdale?)? Thanks so much
Why not take the time and familiarize yourself with each area, plan a visit and check out all that is important to you, dine at local eateries, look at shops, transportation, parks, etc. and take it from there--see the difference for yourself.
Hi,
You needn't be concerned about the area being generic. Many of us are transplanted city folk, with diverse backgrounds. We moved here from Chelsea 16 years ago and love it. Two new families on our block are also from Manhattan. (The old families were old and retired.)
Something I didn't consider when we moved here and should have is the Metro North schedule. If you work in the city and travel standard rush hours, any of the river towns are good. I'm in Hastings and it's 30 minutes on the express to Grand Central. But if you work off hours and plan on taking the train, you may find yourself planning your time around the train. There are fewer trains to the small towns after rush hour, and they're often locals (40 minutes to Hastings). Yonkers & Tarrytown have more frequent trains off hours. As an fyi, when I drive into Manhattan, if I leave before 8 am, I can usually make it to the Wall Street area within 45 minutes. We're 20 miles north of the city.
Happy home hunting!

Hi, I am an Accredited Buyer Representative in Rivertowns. There are many opportunities in your price point, and a walk to the train! Based on your basic criteria you will be very happy with what you'll find in these town. Check out http://www.Yelp.com for restaurant reviews. I am a big fan of dining out so I know how important this can be. As for schools, Agents are restricted by licensing laws from commenting on the schools. I can however be the source of the source.
Please visit http://www.SchoolMatters.com and http://www.GreatSchools.com for comprehensive reviews and reports. As for the commute you will be looking at about 45 mins on the train to Grand Central. If you would like to further a discussion and meet for an initial "no strings attached" Buyer consultation I would be more then happy to sit down with you in my Tarrytown office.
Sincerely,

Your self description is very fitting for those Rivertowns. You will find attractive school systems, active community interests from art to yoga and certainly a well diverse group of eateries in those towns.
These Rivertowns have a historical importance to Hudson Vallley and many are experiencing a revival on the waterfront.
Their proximity to NYC via railroad runs from 35 - 50 minutes from Tarrytown. Driving to Riverdale can be done within 15 minutes.
Give me a call should you wish these areas in better detail.
