you need to be care full some places in pomona are not good places and i live in pomona. You dont want to live near holt or mission and some other area if you have the income move to covina or walnut that a just 10 min away good luck and do your home work things are not always how they look

Historic Lincoln Park is among the best places to live. It is similar to areas of Claremont and Pasadena with the older charm and tree lined streets, however without the expensive price. Several months ago LP was the featured article in the Los Angeles Times newspaper Real Estate Section. Take a drive between Monroe and Columbia and stay west of Towne and east of Garey. There are wonderful areas near Pomona, and you could find a great place to live in any one of them. But, don't discount Pomona itself. This city is growing and changing and there are some great real estate opportunities if you know where to look. There are even some parts of the city that share the Claremont school district which adds value to the home.

I live in Claremont myself and think that it is a lovely place to live. I also like Upland, La Verne, Montclair, San Dimas, Glendora, Chino, Chino Hills, Phillips Ranch, Diamond Bar, Ontario and most of the neighboring communities.

To echo what others have said, the definition of a "Good Place To Live" changes for each person asking the question. California in general is a good place to live, but not all of it works for everyone. Where are you moving from? When are you moving? Are you looking for a house or a condo? What is your budge, Do you want to Rent or Own? Do you have children? Do you have pets? Do you drive freeways? All of these are important questions to consider.

Where you live now, your favorite things about your area now, and the things you would change will influence your choices for your next community.

My comment come as a former South Cal resident. I lived in Orange County and bought my first townhouse in Ontario, CA. For a long list of reasons, Ontario and I were not a hit, and I quickly left headed to the coastal area. It wasn't convenient for my work, my social life and the air quality there was challenging for me. Air quality around South Cal has improved.

VERY NEAR POMONA: Claremont, CA just made the list of CNN's Money Magazine top 10 bet places to live. See the link below, and the paper copy is on newsstands now. Great small town feel, has a small downtown with shops, boutiques, and lots of trees.

NORTHERN ORANCE COUNTY: Brea and Yorba Linda were mentioned earlier and both of those communities are wonderful. Both are suburban, with Yorba Linda having less of a commercial bent since it extends further from the freeways. Brea has a large regional mall, and larger strip mall centers.

INLAND FOOTHILLS: Rancho Cucamonga, Upland allow easy access to Big Bear and mountains if that is a potential recreation destination for you. Prices may be a bit more affordable the further inland you go.

LA COUNTY AND FOOTHILLS: Sierra Madre has a small town feel; Pasadena is larger, and will be a 30-40 minute commute without traffic.

Consider how you will want to spend your free time. Those activities will also influence the pals and new friends you make. Are you most comfortable in a very suburban environment? Will you want access to beaches? Mountains? LA?

Don’t forget to consider commute times and traffic patterns when considering anywhere in Southern California.

Last comment……almost anywhere in Southern California is a wonderful place to live!

Depends on how far you are willing to commute for your job, but here are some of the cities that I wouldn't mind living in near Pomona. They all have their own advantages, I'll list what I know below.

If you are looking to commute less than 20 minutes: Diamond Bar (proximity to Rowland Heights, variety of restaurants especially Asian, mostly residential), Rancho Cucamonga (from what I've seen when visiting friends and family, it's a quaint area). Ontario, if you want to consider that city (I've never actually been) has a somewhat major airline there so if you're planning on traveling that might be convenient for you. Keep in mind that the cities mentioned so far are very different from the Bay Area--there is much more vacant land, everything is less densely populated and built up.

If you don't mind commuting a little further, Brea and Yorba Linda is also nice, more residential, more urban with shopping malls and such. I originally grew up in the city of Orange, which is near Anaheim Hills and I absolutely loved it there. There was a satisfactory amount and variety of restaurants, strip malls, shopping centers, social scene, night life, etc. So if you're willing to move there and you don't mind the commute, which will be about 30-45 minutes normally, I would recommend those cities.
