how do you find out what areas of a city are 'good' areas that r most likely to retain their value?

Asked by Nancy Payton, 93304 Mon Apr 4, 2011

i found a house that is perfect for me, plus has some awesome features that are only available in a small number of houses all built by a specific builder. Unfortunately, they're all located in depressed neighborhoods that do not seem likely to 'come up' in value or desirability. I know the phrase 'location, location, location' is the key to all, but what tools do i have to learn which 'locations' are the good ones?

Look up the median home prices for the area and compare them year over year since 2004 to get an idea of what the market trend is. You should be able to find this on the internet or from past news articles. Some areas are so depressed that they may never come back to where they were in 2005 but, if you love the home and are ok with the area and you can see yourself living there fore a long while do it. Even in good areas the recovery will probably be anywhere from 4-7 years from now. Who knows you may start a redevelopment trend for the area!
