don't want to be in an hoa...can I be forced to join?

Asked by Ryan S, 92585 Mon Oct 19, 2009

I live in south carolina and recently purchased a house in a developing subdivision. As of now there is no hoa. If in the future as more houses are built the new residents decide to form an hoa can I be forced to join, or is there any way to avoid being part of the hoa?

Yes. You can be forced to join. Check with a lawyer for details.

If HOA is not established when purchasing a home then consider volunteer only if area is ever wants HOA can't force you join. However if you do have issues with neighbor HOA might not react as quickly.

I own homes where volunteer only I prefer to be friends with all. Up to you

Most are not expensive for annual dues
