There are a number of excellent schoolsboth public and private in the Austin area. You may want to determine for yourself what best suits your childs needs by visiting a couple of websites that allow you to compare schools. Find a school you like then we can set up a home search that feeds into that particular school and

So you've heard all about the western side of Austin, which has excellent schools and is a wonderful place to live. However, I prefer the central Austin, where everything happens. Our daughter goes to Lee elementary, which then feeds into Kealing middle school. Lee is exemplary and is a very small school with around 400 students total. We even have the option of staying at Lee for 6th grade, or transitioning into the Magnet program at Kealing, parent's choice. Lee serves the area just north of The University of Texas campus to 47th street, and everything west of IH 35 and east of Guadalupe. The parents are comprised of professors, grad students, medical professionals, musicians, small business owners, writers, actors and yes a couple of realtors. It is a wonderfully diverse and highly educated group of parents who are heavily involved in the PTA and all school activities. As for living in central Austin, I love it! We can walk to anything, restaurants, clubs, coffee shops, down town etc. And we rarely need to get on the freeway, except to head out of town on the occasional excursion. If you are an urbanite at heart, please consider the heart of Austin as your possible landing place. I love it hear. Can you tell I'm biased?

Central Austin is really wonderful but we looked for homes in the under $300,000 range that weren't 1500 sq ft. It was nice to find such nice sized homes and highly rated schools in circle c. Lots of greenbelts, too.

The most decorated elementary school in the Austin area is Canyon Creek in the Round Rock ISD. The kids move to Canyon Vista Middle which is one of the best middle schools.
Any of the three elementary schools, Steiner Ranch, Laura Welsh Bush, and River Ridge are all outstanding schools which feed to Canyon Ridge Middle in the Leander School District.
In the Lake Travis school district, all of the elementaries are wonderful and feed to two great middle schools.
In Eanes it is the same. All elementary schools are good, and all feed to outstanding middle schools. Barton Hills elementary is another highly decorated elementary ranking 2nd or 3rd in the area.
I base this on two factors: First the Exemplary rating which mostly addresses passing rates. is a nice rating but doesn't tell the whole story. The Gold Star ratings address the number of students who make the equivalent of an "A" on their tests and carry a rating of Commended in each of the areas tested. When 30% of students are making an A, not just pass, you know that the school is meeting the needs of all of the students. Please pay attention to the "Commended" ratings of all of the schools especially the middle schools. Although many elementary schools rate highly, the middle schools are critical. Email me for the website to easily find the commended ratings of each of the schools.

Lake Travis and Eanes ISD's are exemplary. They are also in the prettiest parts of Austin in my opinion. Steiner Ranch is a popular neighborhood and the schools are great. There are 3 amenity centers, the UT golf club, Lake Austin access, shops, restaurants and schools all within the neighborhood. It really depends on your price range and if you need to be in a certain area close to your work but there are several good school options in different areas of Austin.

The Circle C area feeds to great elementary schools (Kiker, Clayton), Gorzycki Middle school and Bowie High. It's only 14 miles from downtown and has the Veloway. Getting into town from Steiner is a nightmare. Look on

Eanes & Lake Travis are exemplary ISD's in the Austin area. There are also other ISD's that are not exemplary overall but have exemplary schools within the district. For example, the elementary schools and middle school in Steiner Ranch are exemplary. Here is a link to the school ratings:

Looking to move to the Austin area...We are empty nesters so we are looking to downsize, but we would like to keep a 3 bedroom 2 bath home in mind. I am currently an upper elementary teacher within the Allen ISD school district (an exemplary campus), so finding employment will be the key to our location as I would like to continue working; my husband works from home so his location is not really an issue. Suggestions?

As far as ratings go, Eanes ISD is the best, as you can see in the Education tab of this link - Here you can see the overall ratings for all of the Austin area districts. And you can see that some of the other districts have a lot of great schools too.

For a more detailed look, you can use this link

I can send you a lot more information about the schools in the area, as well as homes, including resale, new builds, or leases, and some other relocation information.

Give me a call and I can help you narrow down your search.

Luckily we have several choices as most Autin and surrounding area schools are pretty darn good. For most people after I have a chance to discuss all of their needs (Schools, Commute, Lifestyle and price) I am able to help them find a great place that fits them.
If you'd like an Agent to guide you through the process contact me directly.

If budget isn't a concern, Eanes ISD. Visit the web sites of local title companies - Independence Title, Austin Title, etc - and you'll find school ratings.

Good luck!

The "best" depends on exactly what programs, etc., you are looking for, but in general, the Lake Travis-LTISD, Eanes ISD, & Leander ISD have very highly rated Elementary and Middle Schools. If you'd like more specifics, feel free to contact me directly and I will be happy to steer you in the right direction! Joe Jarusinsky, Realtor, Keller Williams Realty (512) 261-4415
