2 year old townhomes in MountainView, off 101 - how is the area?

Asked by Zico, Santa Clara, CA Mon Jul 30, 2012

How is the area in Mountainview right off 101 near Sierra Vista Park, where there are a bunch 2 year old townhomes (Amherst, Newbury etc.)? Safety? Stuff to do? Schools? Commute? Is there much to do around there without having to drive to Castro or Shoreline Park?

Help the community by answering this question:

We live in that area. We know the seller and neighbors as well. That is a very nice community and area to live in. high school is pretty good. you could walk to castro and shoreline park. that is most of people we know are doing.

We also help 15neighbors in this community (named gables end) to refinance. We definitely know this area very well. We offer the lowest wholesale rate for them. most of them: 5arm rate is 2.625, no point no fee. some of them choose 30fix, rate is 3.75(for condo, 3.5for single family home), no point no fee.

You could contact me for more details about this area and loan support.

The other agents have answered the shopping and safety question so I will go for schools. The local schools include Monte Loma which is very popular and has a close community feel. You can go to http://www.greatschools.net for the scores, but I can tell you parents and kids love this school. High school is Los Altos High which again is very popular. You should always check with the local districts to make sure there are no changes to the boundaries. K-8 http://mvwsd.org/ High School: http://www.mvla.net/Pages/default.aspx

I love Gables End Homes. They have wonderful floor plans and the upgrades are good quality.

This area is going through the demographics change and is definitely getting a face lift, thank you Google. The schools are Mountain View schools, keep in mind that MV High is currently rated above Los Altos High. In terms of things to do Castro will still be your best bet but there is good shopping close by and some restaurants. I like Fiesta Del Mar on Shoreline just West of HWY101. I would recommend you come over, drive around, have a lunch here and get a feel for the area. Let me know if you need a local guide.

In addition to what Terri is saying, I would add that close to these townhomes you have a shopping center with Costco, and a few restaurants, at the corner of Rengstorff and 101, and behind that you have Rei and Best Buy (along 101), and Michaels. So all of this is walking distance, pretty much.
For safety, I would always recommend to go walk the neighborhood at different times and see how you feel about it. Also, talk to neighbors and ask them what they think.
Good luck!

For information on "safety" you should visit http://www.crimereports.com

For schools, my website has several links for you to look up including the API, if that is your focus for schools.

For stuff to do it looks like Downtown is the place to go. Downtown Mountain View (Castro) is a great place to hang out. There is a wonderful selection of food and shopping. There are events, such a wine festivals and Farmer's Market.
