Why are property taxes so high in West Chester, OH? Thanks in advance for your time!

Kim no problem when I moved to Liberty Township we had just under 4000 residents. That was just about 13 years ago. The population of Liberty is now over 34,000 and half the land is still agricultural.

FIRST ANSWER
The area has had tremedous growth over the last 10 years so schools have had to be built to take care of all the young people. Out of the 92.31 mills in West Chester township 65.34 go to Lakota schools. If you are looking at West Chester Mason schools the tax rate is 111.19 mills and the schools get 83.45.
10.45 mills are called "inside" millage and go to the county for needed services that are not voted on like most counties in Ohio.
At some point the schools will be paid for and the property taxes will drop but at this point we just put 4 new schools up last year and 2 more coming for the 2008-2009 school year.
By the way if Liberty Township and West Chester Township joined and incorporated into a city it would be the 7th largest city in Ohio.
