Hi Jeanne,

Watauga County has the lowest county tax rates in the High Country. The 2007-2008 county rates in the areas I cover are Watauga 0.313, Ashe 0.395, and Avery 0.39. Each area includes additional taxes according to township, fire district, landfill fees, etc. Most of the listings on my website give property tax information. If you would like more information or examples of tax rates in our area, please call me at (828) 266-9850.

Jeanne,

Here is a link to the county property tax rates for all counties in North Carolina.

http://www.ncacc.org/taxrates09.html

However, this is just the county rate. The total property tax will be further determined by the location of the home. If inside city limits, a city tax will be added to the county rate. If outside city limits, a fire district tax (usually much lower than a city tax) will be added to the county rate.

Here's an example of the tax rates in Randolph County:

Hope this helps you get started!
