As with most of Harlem, this neighborhood is rapidly changing to meet the endless demand for real estate on the island of the Manhattan. The abandoned buildings are being replaced by luxury condo units and the neighborhood amenities are also opening up all over the neighborhood. There is a sizable Latino community in the neighborhood evidenced by the restaurants and music stores. With access to both the 4,5,6 Subway lines and a Metro North Stop at 125th Street it's a quick ride to Midtown.

East Harlem/El Barrio formerly known as Spanish Harlem stretches from First Avenue to Fifth Avenue and from East 96th Street to East 125th Street. It is a neighborhood in transition. There are many new affordable condo developments in East Harlem.
