Hello 24susan,
MLS means Multiple Listing Service. In East Meadow the MLS covers Nassau, Suffolk, Queens and some Brooklyn. MLSLI.COM is a consumer version of the Database Realtors use. In order for a property to be placed in the MLS it must be listed (agreed to be marketed and sold) by a Licensed agent or broker.

MLS stands for Multiple Listing Service, which is a database set up by cooperating real estate brokers within a given area. There are MLS databases set up to cover certain areas all over the country. These databases have criteria that must be filled out accurately and completely by the listing agent/broker to be added to the database. There are rules and regulations that must be strictly adhered to by listing agents/brokers. The information found in the MLS on a particular property will hold list price, tax information, square footage, number of beds/baths, lot size etc. It is a vehicle that all cooperating agents/brokers go to for listing a property or finding accurate/current information about a property. Information such as last sale information as well as price reductions and sales status can be viewed by the agents within the MLS. While only realtors/brokers can access the MLS, all of the properties can be viewed on the public Board website. You can contact your local Real Estate Board office to be directed to a public website that should show you all the current/active listings within their MLS.

Multiple Listing Service--is a sevice/database that allows real estate professionals to share information; as a seller the property is exposed to all potential buyers; as a buyer it allows one to search based on personal criteria.

Multiple Listing System. Members of the National and local Association of Realtors, as part of their dues, get access to a huge database of homes that are listed for sale by themselves and other realtors. Non members do not have access to the database.
