We can't really discuss family areas (gay discrimination et al), what is safe or not (may be considered blacklisting/redlining other areas). We can't even describe properties you can walk to or not (may discriminate against handicap). This is the world we live in, sorry can't be more helpfull.

I am so glad we moved to the Damonte Ranch area on the south end of Reno. I would definitely suggest you look down here, either in the Damonte Ranch or Double Diamond neighborhoods. Lots of walking and bicycling paths, close to schools, parks and medical facilities. Wide, clean streets. Friendly neighbors who keep their yards clean. Definitely a great family area.

The Southwest is. South Meadows is nice too. The schools are better. Look out for the crime and crowds in the north and the gang activity in central. Also, be aware that the media often refers to central Reno as "South Reno". In general, it is a great city to live in. Maybe one of the best, and a great place for bringing up kids.

If unfamiliar with the areas, visit the neighborhoods several times to get a sense of belonging; look at everything that is important to you, possibly chat with locals, etc., then determine if your comfort level can be reached; real estate professionals are prohibited from steering, enticing a buyer to purchase, or not, in specific neighborhoods.

I would consider Sparks too seeing it's so close by. My biggest concern is safety for my family and having young children, that is my main concern. I'm looking to buy in a few months and i just want to narrow down my search so i know where to go when i'm ready.

Sparks has lots of good options as well, you could be right on a golf course if you wanted. I would love a chance to talk in more about some other factors, like if you would be commuting to a job, if you prefer newer constructions, if you like the wide open high desert, being in trees, near water, city views...ect. There is a lot to choose from.

You have a lot of areas to choose from in that price range, many like Northwest and South Meadows areas. Are you considering Sparks as well?
