The obvious one is the unstable ground. People are very concerned about living and buying a home on liquifiable material. But, that's one of those things that we'll never really know until it happens. Another obvious Marina drawback is the sheer cost. It's one of the most expensive areas in San Francisco and there is never a lack of people interested in buying or renting in the Marina, so competition is stiff. There are some other drawbacks, like noise levels near bars and restaurants, as well as commute time for those who need to get across town or out of the city to the South or East Bay everyday.

This is an expensive part of town. Don't even think of looking here if you are on a budget! Also, if you want to witness any kind of diversity around you, this is not a place for you. Nowhere else in the city is the crowd so homogeneous, and nowhere else will you be judged if you are not wearing the latest in gym wear. If you move here and spend any time in the Mission, don't tell people you are from the Marina, or risk being instantly shunned.
