The best place to view the Chicago skyline, in my humble opinion, is from the deck of a boat out on Lake Michigan, hopefully owned by a friend. There's not much better than having a friend who owns a boat, likes to sail, and is willing to invite you aboard.

If you're not fortunate enough to have a friend who owns a boat, the skyline of Chicago, when viewed whilst driving southbound on North Lake Shore Drive ain't too bad, neither.

Olive Park, Navy Pier, The Signature room at John Hancock or a boat.

Bump for Lake Shore Drive in either direction, especially at night!

Any of the major buildings in the city can show you parts of the skyline, but to get the whole thing, get on a boat. I go on those Architectural tours, and that really gives you a good feel for it!

An excellent stationary view of the skyline is from the Adler Planetarium and one of the best if not the best view while driving is heading NORTH on Lake Shore Drive from the south side.
