Did you get the information you were seeking?

The Newton Police Department can be reached at http://www.newtonpolice.com/

The suggestion to walk the neighborhood and visit nearby shops and businesses is a good one, there are several wonderful coffeeshops nearby, the Country Desserts Bake Shop is right at the corner of River and Lexington St ... Auburndale Center and West Newton Center have a whole host of little shops and businesses that would really give you a good feel for the neighborhood.

Tough it is summer, you may wish to check out the two Elementary Schools which serve that neighborhood ... The Burr Elementary School and Franklin Elementary School. Whether you check the Newton Public Schools website http://www.newton.k12.ma.us or perhaps check the Massachusetts DOE website of School profiles http://profiles.doe.mass.edu/profiles/general.aspx?topNavId=…

Moorea, Real estate agents are legally and ethically not to have this type of discussion. You can call a local police department to determine a neighborhoods activity.

Hi Moorea, The prior responses are correct, the NPD will be able to give you statistics about the crime (or lack there of in the neighborhood. The area you describe is near the Burr Elementary school, and several parks. Asking neighbors who are out and about in that area will yield you lots of information too.

I happen to live in that neighborhood and would be happy to help you find a property in the area if you are interested. My email is Mary.Lewis@commonmoves.com.

It is just an opinion not the fact. If you want facts, you should call Newton Police and find out the real fact. Also, I alway told my buyer to walk around in the area, stop by at local supermarket, coffee shop, etc. You can get a better sense of what kind of community you are buying into. Sunday open house is a good day to do that, plan your open house tour that will allow you 15 to 20 mins between houses so you can stop by at local store.

If you need help, you always can call up a local real estate agent.

Your best answer will be from the Newton Police...call them. Real Estate agents cannot comment on safe or unsafe areas.

Best of luck,
