I work in the Northwest section of Houston, which includes, Katy (Cinco Ranch), off the Energy Corridor.
Also.....Cypress (Bridgelands, Fairfield)), Tomball (Wildwood @ Northpoint and Spring (Gleannloch Farms). These are some of the larger master planned communities in the Northwest area. if you decide this is where you might want to live... Give me a ring @713-824-2618 or send me an email @

Welcome to Texas! You're gonna love it! There are good reviews of Realtors in the area, or you can ask someone you trust locally to recommend someone to you!

Good morning, Rick. First, welcome to Houston. You will find it much different than the New Jersey area you are currently in. Houston is very spread out with each area being almost a city in itself. Yet you will want to be able to have access to good roads to get you around the city. The Energy Corridor is in a good location with easy access to the further west areas such as Katy, but the best bet for you might be around the new Grand Parkway (HWY 99) that will eventually be a loop around the entire city. There are many new subdivisions there with good schools as well. These are family communities with many amenities. Bear Creek might be another possibility.

I would highly suggest that you choose a Realtor (preferably one from this forum) and let them help you. It costs you nothing usually to have your own Buyer's Agent and you get the expertise of a professional. I am a Realtor as well as a licensed mortgage loan officer and have been a home builder as well, so if I can help please contact me.

Hello Rick, are you planning to rent initially and then buy or are you trying to buy right away?

What type of housing (# of bedrooms, etc) are you looking for and what is your budget? When will you be moving? Are you planning to visit Houston to look at some properties first before you move with your family?

Please give me some more details so I can assist you better. If you have specific questions, please contact me at the information below. Thanks.

Katy ISD would be a good choice. I am currently assisting 2 families from the NE who are relocating from the NE to work in the Energy Corridor. I suggest the Cinco Ranch area, South of I-10 for the closest commute. Are you hoping to purchase or lease a property? Please let me know how I can help. Randall Stewart Properties, 281-844-8044,, There are many other areas of Katy that would work just as well, depends upon what you are hoping to find

Katy is great if you are on a budget. However, the commute into town can be terrible. The Memorial Villages are awesome if you can afford it. There are a few pockets like Sherwood Forest and Wickchester if you only need the High School

Katy could be a good answer for you guys. Great schools, inviting community and if you're working in the energy corridor, less than a 30 minute commute. And, depending, on what your size requirements and budget, there can be a reasonable selection out that direction. Houston has a bit of a housing crunch right now. So you will want to get with an agent who is willing to give you a lot of information in a hurry. Once you see the properties, you will need to be set to make a move in a hurry because houses are going fast here and if you aren't prepared, you can miss out on the ones that are GREAT. Bargains can be had if you're willing to work a little on the dream spot, but if not, be prepared to be aggressive when you're looking. Real Estate market right now is not for the faint at heart.
But I can help you get set up with a lender if needed, and set you down the path if you need a good agent!

Plenty of communities. Some factors may depend on price range. You might consider Copperfield and other newer areas like Towne Lake or Bridgeland in northwest Houston. If your looking west, maybe older communities like Green Trails or newer such as Firethorne and Cinco Ranch in the Katy area.

The immediate area around the Energy Corridor would be the Spring Branch school district. You will find nothing there under $400,000 realistically. This area is known as "Memorial" or the "Memorial Villages".

Send me your email and home address and I will mail you a relocation packet full of information on Houston and the surrounding areas. My wife works right there at Eldridge and Memorial in the heart of the Energy Corridor and I have been assisting buyers relocating into Houston for over 20 years.
