We are looking to move from NJ to SC. We had settled on Hampton Lake in Bluffton, but now I am having my doubts about the area. Mount Pleasant

seems to be a little more upscale and closer to everything that we would need with 2 pre-schoolers. We are looking to build in the 800K range. Any suggestions or advice as to how to approach: 1. Finding a lot with a frontage of at least 200 in a community with ammenities 2. Best communities and schools 3. Bluffton vs. Mount Pleasant. Thanks so much for those who can help!

I moved to South Carolina from Texas almost four years ago and love it. My husband is from Jersey and he along with myself would definately say Mt Pleasant. It has many more things to do and much more of a selection as far as property and homes are concerned. Also Mt Pleasant is going to hold it's market value better than rural Bluffton. Contact me if you need anything I am the Broker in Charge of our real estate company and would love to assist you in finding what you would like.

Lori,
Without a doubt, Mt. Pleasant is best for your situation! The (public) schools are far superior than the Bluffton area schools and this is a thriving community, very close to the beaches, downtown Charleston. Why build at this time? Look around to see what it on the market! You will be pleasantly surprised! I have a neighbor that just bought a house on our street - 849k from New Jersey. They moved here in August ( 5 children ) and absolutely love it! Call me! Elizabeth 843-670-8053

Lori, Mount Pleasant is a short drive from downtown Charleston. There are many neighborhoods that may work for you. There certianly are more cutural, and historical and great dining in the Mount Pleasant / Charleston area than Blufton. If you want you can go to my website and search all of the Mount Pleasant listing ( homes and vacant land) along with a brief synopsis of Mount Pleasant and links to listngs in most of the subdivisions. You can use google street view maps to actually see the streetscape of each listing. My website address is http://www.carolinajoe.com. Let me know if you have any additional questions. Let me know how and when I can help.

Hi, Lori:

My husband and I relocated to the Charleston area last year from up North. I grew up in North Jersey myself and would definitely be able to help you in your relocation efforts.

Mount Pleasant has a lot of wonderful features to offer and, as the others have said, you should be able to find something that suits you and your family. Unfortunately, I am not familiar with the Blufton area.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about relocating. I wish you the best in your search!

Hi Lori,
I know what you are going through. When I decided to relocate to the South from the Boston area, I started in Annapolis and worked my way to Savannah. I stopped at many coastal towns/cities along the way that we had vacationed at, but now looked from a point of view of buying a home. We wanted to be close to the water, good school system, near great diversification of restaurants, a city that had more to offer than play golf every day, and somewhere that had a cultural background. When we came to Charleston we know we struck gold. I can't speak much of Bluffton, but it is an area I passed though on my way to Savannah and, in my opinion it can't compare.

As far as how to approach what you are looking to do - meet with a Realtor that knows the area and can help you find the subdivisions that will meet your needs. There are many to choose from in Mt. Pleasant that have land for sale, and if you have a $800K budget, you should have no problem finding a location that will make you and your family happy.

Let me know if I can be of service to you.

We don't golf, not to say that we won't at some point, but we are looking for amenities as far as a pool, fitness center, children's play area. We don't have to be that close to Charleston, just want a nice neighborhood, yard, and community. We are in our late 30's, so younger would be great too! Thanks for your help!

FIRST ANSWER

Lori,

Thanks for your question. I will be honest. I can't really speak for Bluffton as I have never been there, but I can tell you it would be hard to go wrong with Mt. Pleasant. I have lived in Mt. Pleasant for 10 years and feel I could not have picked a better place to live.

Mt. Pleasant is growing and there are many different places to look matching your description. For me to help you, I would need more specific information. For example; Do you play tennis? Are you looking for a neighborhood with a golf course? How close would you like to be to the beaches and downtown Charleston? What kind of amenities are you looking for? Any information you could provide would be helpful.

For school information I would recommend going to http://www.charlestoncounty.org/Departments/School/index.htm .

Please let me know if you have any questions. It would my pleasure to help you and to be of service.

Sincerely,

Donnie Whitaker
