Hi Anne,
Yes, Hartsdale is a nice place to raise children! Another great website to check out is http://www.city-data.com.
I'm a local realtor too, and would love to help find the right place for you.

Hi Anne,
I had my first Hartsdale House sale in Hartsdale over 25 years ago. It's a terrific place to live. 30 Minutes from Grand Central Station a really easy commute to NYC.
It borders White Plains, which now has a Great Night life. There is terrific shopping along Central Avenue and Hartsdale Ave by the train station have a real small town feel. The train station borders Scarsdale.
The school system you can research on your own, but I know they had an elementary plan where they pulled out the slower kids in Math and Reading and gave them special help. There are several local elementary schools in different neighborhoods and there is one Middle school for the whole town. All the kids also go to Woodlands for Junior High and High school it is a parklike former estate campus.
There are some great parks. Ridge Rd. was an old country club and has tennis, hiking ball fields and pools. There is another park that was the old Gillette estate and Webb field ball field and park right on Central Ave.
The studio Co-ops start around $55,000 and go to about $300K for a 2 BR.
The Condos start around $250,000 and go to about $700K
A starter home is about $400,000 and go to about a million.
There are some terrific residential areas and condos and co-ops that you can easily walk to train and shopping.
All the best

Hi Anne, I have sold a few properties in Hartsdale and most of the people chose it for the commutation to the city and proximity to all that Central Ave has to offer. There are also some very cute neighborhoods such as Poets Corner and College Corner. All of the streets are named after famous poets and colleges. As agents we are restricted by law from talking about the schools. We can be the source of the source, I recommend visiting the schools unannounced. The reason I say unannounced is you will get to see how they treat you with no preparation and then you can also have a look around. Two of my favorite sites are http://www.schoolmatters.com and http://www.homefair.com for school info, crime stats, and demographic makeup.
Hope this helps,
