As a teacher in Lancaster, I would not recommend moving to the area. Waxahachie and Midlothian seem to be great cities to live in. They have a real home town feel. We are actually in the process of moving from Arlington to Ennis.

Yes, schools are important, but from experience here and Fl, they are subject to change in short amounts of time also and the more influx of people, the more changes and not always for the best.
I have seen that the Lancaster area is not a great "statistical" place to be.......

Penny, you may want to check out the Lancaster area if you like historic homes, too. Cedar Hill is nearby, with great shopping and lots of restaurants. By the way, schools are always important when making a real estate investment, even if you don't have kids in school. Families are attracted to areas with great schools. You may want to contemplate possible resale potential when you invest in a home.

First off, while I know about the crime stats, I KNOW that my zip code is WRONG! So, I am not willing to trust the internet resources on that and things change so frequently- 2 years ago, our neighbor hood wasn't bad, then it got really bad, now it's on the upswing- all in 2 years time.
That really presents a problem for buyers, that no one can discuss the areas-
I have found many homes that I love! and the "statistics" are the same as here (which is my problem with that, or are they?) But, I seriously LOVE the historic homes and I need more information about taxes and such there, as we have state, county, city and sales tax- they love us here in GA......

You can check Realtor.com and go into the neighborhood area and find out about crime in particular neighborhoods. Realtors themselves are not to quote these statistics, unless on a complete demographics sheet.
