In my search for towns in NJ I have heard multiple times not to bother with Wayne. It happens to be an area I have visited and thought was VERY nice. Seems to have beautiful homes, good schools, lots of shopping and even decent transportation to NY. Why does it have a bad reputation?
Whoever told you Wayne was an undesirable community obviously didn't do their homework. Where else can you find a home in almost any price range? There are 4 lake communities to chose from, a multitude of condo and townhome communities, first time homebuyer to multi million dollar homes as well. The schools are great, and I speak from personal experience, the recreational facilities are amazing, there is a train station, access to every imagineable shopping and highway and the commute to the city is wonderful. Park your car at the new transit hub on Rt 23 and take the train or bus! I could go on forever so feel free to call or email me anytime.

Hello, Kim!
How are you doing?
Wyane is very nice and beautiful town, with everything that you need for everyday living, and with a convenient commute to NYC. It is very large and price range for homes thre from around $200K to $2,000,000.
Some parts of township are in flood zone, maybe this is why you have heard some negative stuff about it.
Do your own investigation on line, check criminal record, school reports, neigborhood activities etc
And if you will have any quesitons regarding real estate in the area and in general, feel free to contact me
mail to: YelenaT@optonline.net

Hi Kim,
I'm afraid that Realtors and agents aren't allowed to comment on stuff like this - to do so would violate ethics codes.
But ... I'm NOT a realtor :-) Wayne is an "OK" town. It's mixed. Some nicer areas and some blue collar. Thing about NJ - there are like 10,000 towns - that's part of the reason the taxes are so darn high - we've got way too many police depts, school districts, local governments - for the overall population.
What I would really wonder is - what are your needs (commuting, schools, price range, single family or townhouse/condo, etc)? This would help people to recommend areas for you to consider. Would you please outline what you are looking for?
Jeff
