I use to live in Oak Cliff. I have moved to Arlington, Texas and out of state and now I live in Dallas near White Rock Lake. I enjoyed all the places but I also dont mind driving around. Every area has something that will attract you or that you will enjoy. Oak Cliff has great foods and its booming - lots of new stores, restaurants, and growth. If you dont like it - move back.
#2 Trinity Groves is not that far away.
#3 There are shops and restaurants in Oak Cliff....think Bishop Arts?

It really does depend on your lifestyle. I have friends that wouldn't think of living outside of Oak Lawn and I have friends that wouldn't think of living outside of Oak Cliff. Of course those in Oak Cliff own detached, single family homes and the Oak Lawn folks have townhomes or condos and that may be a factor for you too. There are some SFH in Oak Lawn but not as many as in Oak Cliff. Likewise, there are condos in Oak Cliff but not as many as in Oak Lawn.
There are benefits to both areas and it really depends on what you're looking for.
I hope this helps. .

There are groceries, bars, restaturants, shops in all parts of town.
Maybe more so in OL and Uptown than in OC.
There's perhaps more space and more trees in OC...more green.
OL and Uptown have more buildings, perhaps less green, higher people density.
It also might depend on your commute and hobbies.
