Off topic - rental property

Asked by Linda, California Wed Sep 3, 2008

We were lucky enough to find a great new home, but because it's not the ideal time to sell our existing condo we have decided to rent it out. We'll be living very nearby so we we will do our own property management and have already shown the property and now need to run a credit report on the (non-married) couple we've narrowed it down to. They completely filled out the applications (1 each) and signed the portion authorizing landlord to run credit, check references, etc. However, we are now finding out that is is much harder than it appears to find a reputable company to run credit. Can anyone offer advice on how to do this? It would be to run 2 credit checks and we would pay any associated costs. All parties are located in CA (landlord in Walnut Creek and prospective tenants in Danville and Martinez)

You could get your renter to go to and print out a credit report. This is free and is approved by the main credit reporting agencies.
