bobbaganush1, Renter in Houston, TX

My wife and I will be moving to Houston in March 2013.

Asked by bobbaganush1, Houston, TX Fri Feb 15, 2013

We're looking for a place to rent while we save for a house. We'd like something within walking distance to shops, bars, restaurants, etc. So definitely something in the loop. We only want to spend around 1,000 a month and would ideally like to find a 2 bedroom. Is that possible in The Heights, Montrose, or any other nice areas?

You might want to consider renting an apartment in the suburbs, while you shop for the perfect inner loop neighborhood. It is going to be very difficult to find a house in an inner loop area that meets your price range and desired features.

Hi there,

With regards to finding a safe neighborhood with plenty of amenities, you might want to check out Trulia Local.

Trulia Local has a crime map where you can see what's been going on in Houston: http://www.trulia.com/local#crimes/houston-tx

... and a map showing local amenities like restaurants, bars and banks:

Good luck with your search!

Hi! There are a few places that popped up on my search that I can send to you if you provide me with your email address. It will be tough to find a place under 1000/mth that is within walking distance to bars/restaurants/shops but you can find some that are not very far at all to drive to. Suburbs are always an option because most of the Houston suburbs are like mini cities with all of these amenities. Please email me and I will send you what I have. Talk to you soon!

The areas you prefer carry rents in excess of your budget. The Houston rental market is very active, and it's simply a matter of supply and demand. Galleria is a possibility ... I've leased property in that price range there, albeit a bit older condominium units. If you'll provide your contact information, I can let you know what's available within your price range. I look forward to hearing from you.
