I am not a realtor wanting to sell you a home in Chiefland so let me tell you just how it is without any ulterior motive. Yes Chiefland is quaint and laid back, politics in Levy county is very good ol boy style. There is virtually no employment in Chiefland and the unemployment rate is high. Yes Gainesville and Ocala are close, 45 and 55 miles respectively so unless you ride a motorcycle commuting could get very expensive. Chiefland is in the heart of the bible belt. Plenty of country around but is predominately a trailer city. Property is relatively inexpensive though. Don't be fooled by all the realtors talk of "approved" hospital or near the site of the new "approved" power plant or the latest one the site of the "proposed" college (community college) as none of these have even started to break ground and their future existence isn't etched in stone it just makes the area sound more promising. Good luck! Care to get more info email me. I have lived there for over 14 years. jfoster680@yahoo.com

Alicia, Chiefland is very close to Manatee Springs State Park. It's a great place to swim, canoe, snokel or just camp. Not only a Super Walmart in town, but plans for a new hospital in the near future. You can find a place in Chiefland that's either town, or rural living. Taxes in Levy county are usually less expensive than some neighboring counties. Not too far from Gainesville, FL which is home of the University of Florida, but also has a great community college and everything else you could possibly need. Let me know if I can help you with your home search. I have lived in this area for most of my life and would be happy to help you.

Hi This is Bob Tonkinson with Watson Realty corp in Gainesville Fla. We are about 30 minutes east of Chiefland. Chiefland has a super wal mart store a.d other small stores. It is a growing community. The Suwanee River is just minutes to the north. There are many areas open for buliding and there ar some contemporary homes on the market. The climate is moderate most of the year it is hot between July and September.

Chiefland is located in Levy County, not far from Gainesville and Ocala. Quaint Williston is nearby as is Cedar Key for boating, fishing and other eco-friendly activities. ( Cedar Key is now what Key West used to be..) I have a local office at the new Subdivision Bridle Trace which is about 20 miles from Chiefland. I`m from NJ too!!

Hello Alicia,

Chiefland is rural Florida and I have provided a link to the Chamber of Commerce. http://www.chieflandchamber.com
We relocated to the Tampa Bay area and just love it. There are pristine parks, beaches, rivers, performing arts centers and of course Busch Gardens and Disney in Orlando.

I am from PA, and suggest you might consider the Destin area in the panhandle. We have the most beautiful beaches (sugar white), with emerald turquoise waters. We have some season, which will help you to feel very much at home. Are you relocating for work or retirement? Also, this area has very much a cross section of population, and lots of wide open spaces, due to the proximity to Eglin AFB and federal land. There are links on my website which will allow you to look at the area.
