My husband and I are military and will be relocating to Langley AFB in June. We are looking for a nice home,

townhouse, condo, or apartment in a small complex to rent for 6-12 months, until we are ready to buy. We prefer a 3 bedroom 2 bath on a quiet, safe street in a good school district. Safety, good neighbors, and a good school district are paramount in our search. Does anyone have any suggestions of neighborhoods we should look in or specific homes we should consider? Thank you in advance!

Hi Winter,

We list our rental properties with AHRN. It is a good resource. There are other sites such as Craigs list but be careful of the scams. Some friends of my daughter who found a great deal on Craigs list almost got scammed because the person advertising the house didn't really own it and was collecting rent deposits from different people and the real owners' had NO idea! The last place of ours that we rented out on ahrn was a townhome in Coventry near Langley but in York County (Tabb). We've managed to keep it rented to military families the whole time, which is a win-win situation. There are other places for rent there as well as single family homes but it really depends on your budget. I live in York County very near Poquoson and would be happy to send you rental listings. You can also drive around each listing and probably find a few more. Just email me if you want some listings. Good luck and welcome to Langley!

Hi Winter,
I have found militarybyowner.com to be a very helpful website and you will be able to search for homes to rent as well as homes to purchase. Also it is always good to contact the local police department for information about the neighborhood for the area that you are planning to move to. How far do you want to live from the base?If you desire further assistance please feel free to visit my website at http://www.thedreamhomespecialist.net, there is some really good information on my website. I wish you and your family the best.

Hi Winter,
My family relocated here and are now stationed at Langley. The two best sites for rentals are militarybyowner.com and ahrn.com. The second is the actual base housing office website. We ended up with a very nice townhome rental in Poquoson which boasts some of the best schools in Virginia based off our research and pay several hundred less than our BAH. You'll be "shell-shocked" by the prices if you decide you want to buy but rentals are very abundant in the better school districts and are priced favorably compared to buying.

Hi Winter,

The first question I always prefer to ask is, what is you desired price range and/or monthly payment? York County is preferred by of my Langley clients with children, mostly because of the schools. But 3 bedroom townhomes begin in the $230's and houses typically begin in the $300's. But if you want to contact me thru my website, I'll be happy to email you a list of both houses and townhomes within your specific price range/BAH.

Kind regards,
