I am selling my home in Forest Lake which is 25 minutes from Shaw, 5 Minutes from Fort Jackson, and 10 minutes from USC. At approximately 3,500 sf, it is perfect for a couple looking for a nice sized home or for someone who has a family. The house has an open floorplan which is great for entertaining.

This is the former residence of General Robert Solomon, from Fort Jackson, imaculate.

We have a water view of Lake Ryan and we are around the block from Forest Lake Country Club and 10 doors down from Rockbridge Country Club.

Below is my Craigslist ad. This house is extremely nice. Please feel free to call me on my cell phone at:

Whitney, I am retired military and currently a DoD civilian. I am not a real estate agent. My husband and I are in the same situation as you. We've moved several times before we discovered the location for our needs. I would suggest you look at houses off of Trotter Rd, Caughman Rd, or Twin Oaks (Reflections development) areas. This will give both you and your husband bang for your money, located near local shopping & short commute to Sand Hill Mall, Fort Jackson commissary is 10 minutes away and most importantly gives you and your husband the best location with the shortest commutes. If you have more questions please email me at cynthia.evans@shaw.af.mil or call me at 803-895-1928. Check out : http://reflectionslife.net/

Whitney,

Where are your classes located at USC? It may make more of a difference to you, as you will be walking on campus too. You may want to look anywhere from the Forest Acres area of Columbia to Hopkins to accommodate both of your commutes. I have even helped buyers search for homes in the Northeast of Columbia. You can take an alternate route to Shaw AFB and arrive in an hour. Not sure if schools K-12 is important to you but I would be happy to answer any questions you may have about the Columbia area. I am very familiar with the SE and homes currently on the market. The price range may make a difference in the area you select too. I am attaching my web address. Please call me if you have any additional questions. 803-600-6000. Hope this helps...Dondi Phelps

Whitney,

I think you would be best to look in the cities of Eastover, southeast Columbia, and Forest Acres. Taking a peek at Sumter wouldn't hurt either. It will depend on you and your husband’s interests and where those interests would be best served.

Things to consider-

Do you have children? If so, will you be focused on where they will be attending school or extra-curricular activities?

Or, will you be more young, social and looking to make area friends?

What is your price range?

Price may affect where you want to live based on the amenities the area has to offer or even how much home you need.

There are many, many choices to consider. I would suggest you shop for an experienced area realtor who can help you with these questions and more to find the right fit for you. Where you will live will be a key factor in your life and happiness in South Carolina.

I am an experienced area realtor who cares about my clients needs. If I can be of assistance, let me know. I would be happy to help select a Sumter agent to help tour you around that area as well if you need the time to learn and feel comfortable with the two areas, as Sumter is under a separate MLS than we are.
