Marie,
The King county tax records website and and Zillow website are ok for some information and may be the best source if you are dealing with FSBO sale but if it was or has ever been on the MLS asking an agent to help should garner you deeper info. Also would probably help you find any information that may not appear on public records. Best of luck in your search.

Also you can get this information yourself. Just go to public tax records. www.metrokc.gov is for king county records.

Go to windermere.com and do a map search in the vicinity of the home. It will show up if it's listed and still available. You can also search by address. Doing the same thing with johnlscott.com will allow you to view sales also. Zillow.com and Trulia.com also have address searches. All Windermere, Prudential and Keller-Williams listings are on Trulia. Zillow doesn't have many listings but gives good neighborhood information including sales. You can also get a "zestimate" of the value of the home you're interested in, which may or may not be accurate.

The quickest and most accurate way to find out if a home is for sale, is to drive by it and see. This way, you can tell if it is FSBO (For Sale By Owner), or possibly listed with an agent in the MLS. Most, but not all homes listed by a Realtor will have a yard sign posted. One way to check for previous sales in the Renton area is to visit King County's public record search site listed at

http://www.metrokc.gov/gis/Mapportal/PViewer_main.htm

Type in the address of the property and it will show you property information (including sales history if available).

Nearly all real estate information such as what you are interested in researching, is free and can be found online. Realtors used to be the exclusive holders of such information, but the internet has empowered folks such as yourself to obtain the information on your own. What we (Realtors) provide, is the expertise in deciphering that information and placing it in context, along with guidance in helping you make informed decisions when purchasing or selling a home.

Hope this helps!

-Daniel

Properties that are listed or sold through the multiple listing service can be searched by address. If a property has a closed sale it can also be accessed through King County tax records. It takes an
agent only minutes to do the search .
