I worked on the Westbank for many years. There are many great neighborhoods there, but go to nola.com and take a look at their crime map. New Orleans is a very tightly integrated city, so it is possible to be a millionaire, yet live two blocks away from murder central [mostly gang related]. Personally, I'd recommend crossing the bridge and making the commute to Uptown. If you can live in a smaller space, 300K should do you. Algier's Point is beautiful, but you'd have to pass some very dangerous areas getting in and out. Also, the Westbank is very vulnerable to flooding. Make sure you know what's higher ground.

Hi Bruce, I am glad your are moving to the New Orleans Metro Area. We are always glad to learn that new people are going to discover how great our city is. I would recommend several different areas to you. First, I would like to meet with you or email to find out more about your specific needs. Recommending an area without knowing your particulars is like throwing a dart at a board and hoping for the best. There may be neighborhoods close to your new work location that are perfect or you may want to be in another part of town because of some special interest you or your wife may have. I will be happy to discuss the areas that fit your best interests and give you all the information you need to make the right decision for you and your wife.

I would look to stay within a reasonable distance to Belle Chase where values are going to be better. Do your homework so you can be richer rather than poorer when you leave.

Without knowing nothing else, other than what you mentioned. I would recommend a subdivision called Park Timbers. Let me earn your business, I am sure you know, you dont pay for my services, the seller pays all commissions. So use my resources at your leisure, I would be glad to send you some properties of what I have in mind.

What would you like to do when here beyond work? What does your wife like to do?
That is more of a determining factor, and can help narrow your focus.

Email me some more details and we can start focusing on your needs, long and short term goals. We will discuss where you are now, likes/dislikes and how we can best mold your thoughts into a home that best your needs.

Belle Chasse is a pretty high demand area on the West Bank, so if you want to be close to work, I would start your search there. The average sale in the area for the last few months has been in the $250k range, so you should be able to find something that fits your budget pretty easily.
