My husband and I are going to be relocating to Dallas within the next 2 months, and really need help finding a good area to live in. We want to live within about a 30 minute (max) commuting distance to downtown (Bryan St.). I don't know much at all about the area so I need a lot of help with this. We have a home to sell first, so we will have to rent for at least a year.
We don't have any kids, so school districts are not important. I'd like to avoid having to commute on toll roads. I'd love to rent a house with a water view or frontage. Of course, being in a safe community is also important.
Please give me some feedback about where I should start my search, which communities have a lot to offer (shopping, great restaurants, etc) as I'm starting to panic!
Thanks so much!
Janice
I would suggest Lake Highlands or Lakewood area. Minutes from downtown
I apologize, when I answered the question earlier I thought you wanted to live very near downtown. If you are looking for lakeside living in the metroplex let me suggest Rockwall and Rowlett area on lake ray hubbard. You can find rentals with a view from 1000 for a condo and on up for homes. A 3/2 nice home with a lake view would cost you about 2200. This area is very nice. Especially the Rockwall side of the lake. A newly developed retail area called the harbor adds some great dining and entertainment. http://www.theharboratrockwall.com/ If you would like me to send you a free rental search please email me at rj.avery@att.net or call 214-682-0598.
Hi Janice,
Welcome to Dallas. There are a lot of options here. Apparently you would like some lake view house. I have an investor who has a beautiful hose for rent on "White Rock Lake", less than 30 min from downtown. If you don’t like it, I would be more than happy to locate another house for you.
Janice,
Would you consider buying? If you are willing to go up to $2,500/month I can help you guys find a great creek lot home in Richardson (Richardson Heights) or in the Dallas area. Right now is a great time to buy a home... You can get seller's to pay your closing costs, mortgages rates are still low, and I guarantee all my buyer's that I can negotiate $5,000 off the list price or I will give you $500 back at closing!
If you guys are still looking please contact me. If not hope you have a happy and safe holiday season!
Janice,
Have you narrowed the areas down yet?
Have you arrived in Dallas yet?
Can we help you find the perfect home?
Call me if you need any assistance.

Thanks so much for responding! Here's some more info about us & what we're looking for:
1) a newer home (0-15 yrs, maybe a little older). Not looking for an apartment or townhouse.
2) preferably not in a subdivision, but I'm not sure how the layout is down there. Would like to have some privacy.
3) range is up to $2500
4) min 2 bedrooms, 2 car garage would be nice, definitely need a/c, 1 or 2 levels is fine
5) Water view (lake, pond) would be great, and would also love to have a pool.
6) would love to be within close (5-10 minutes) of shopping (grocery, mall); golf, tennis, biking
6) now for the bad news: we have pets...2 dogs, 3 cats. Of course they are well behaved. Would love to have a fenced in back yard. Will pay whatever pet deposit is required.
I know I won't be able to find exactly what I'm looking for, but I really do appreciate your help with this, and I'm really looking forward to moving to Texas (even though I've never been there)!!!
Janice
Janice,
Good thing is you have plenty of choices. Do you like newer neighborhoods or older neighborhoods? What price range do you want to stay in? Do you have any hobbies or interests? Some places to consider might be Irving, Coppell, Lewisville, Rockwall. Depending on your price range and desires you might also consider the area around White Rock Lake. Let me know if you'd like us to send you sample listings by email. We'll be glad to do what we can to assist you.

Hi Janice,
Welcome to Texas! :)
Thanks for your question. When you're talking about water view - do you mean lake or is pond, pool, or other body of water ok? What price range are you seeking? That'll help determine the neighborhoods we could search.
Two months is a cake walk. We could definitely find you something within that time frame. If you'll let me know a little more about your preferences - bed, bath, # of stories, garage, etc. then we could start a search for you that will update you on a daily basis of homes that meet your criteria.
You can also look at the URL below and it updates on a daily basis of what's new on the market, what's sold, prices being dropped, etc. in all the different areas of Dallas.
Thanks,
