Federal Equal Housing Opportunity Law prevent Realtors from "steering" folks to and from specific areas, so the most appropriate way to assist you and answer your question is to provide you with the places where you can find the information to help you make the decision of where you're comfortable living for yourself:

Colorado Springs Police Department Crime Information: http://www.MyNeighborhoodUpdate.net

Information about Neighborhoods: http://www.brianwess.com/Neighborhoods

Important Colorado Springs Information Links: http://www.brianwess.com/COSpringsInfo

I hope you find this information of use.

That would depend on where you want to live in relation to your work, how much you want to spend, and how big a place you want! I toured the entire area before deciding on where I am and I love it, but may be selling soon due to a move. Right off the trails and the bluffs are in the backyard, very quiet and the UCCS police patrol the area because it's close to the campus. Very safe and close to everything for the most part. And rents in the area seem very reasonable.

I lived in Northern Colorado Springs and loved that area. I think you would like it. The 80918 zip code and surrounding area.

Going straight to the Police Department for crime information is going to get you the most accurate information. As far as expensive/cheap in relation to safety, have you ever paid less to be more safe?
