Sometimes there are vital statistics of an area on Trulia or REALTOR .com Look for home Listigs on those sites and then check out the statistics.
Also, the Unversity, Economic Developement Boards, Libraries also usually have studies of demographics like that for an area. They would list professionals, population,numbers of households, median income etc.
