It's hard water in Austin. You may want to install a water softener.

The water in Austin is hard, it is always a good idea to get a water softener.

It is ok for tap water. But, I would recommend getting a filter system of some sort, as that will always be better than tap.

The City of Austin has very good water quality relative to other communities in town. Water softeners are rarely needed on homes that have city connections.

However, Kyle and Pflugerville are notorious for having extremely hard water. A softener is required out there and most homes are pre-plumbed with a loop for it.

My family and I have always liked Austin tap water, we like the taste and it is not too hard on coffee maker, etc. No water softener here.

Water quality in Austin is good. There are some areas like Pflugerville where you will want a water softener because of the lime. But overall much better than Los Angeles for example.
