Four Hills is very convenient and a very safe neighborhood. It is safe because of a few reasons:
(1) one way in/out (2) private security patrols (3) generally (not entirely) a more conservative nbrhd where homeowners are more likely to own firearms This neighborhood is full of 1960's homes that are nice but often require updating, but any $ you invest will come back because of the prestige of Four Hills. If you want to be even more convenient and in a newer neighborhood, consider Willow Wood, between Elizabeth and Juan Tabo and Southern and Gibson - a great place with many people who work on KAFB, especially military and Sandia National Labs. I realize this answer is late, but wanted to throw the info out there, and hope it proves helpful. Wed Nov 28 2007, 21:50 Web Reference: http://www.real-estate-albuquerque.com

Having served in the Air Force and been at Kirtland for a while, your best bet is to have the client ask members of their unit or department at Kirtland. When I was there several years back, most of the members lived either on the West Side of ABQ (where your money goes farther) or up in the NE around Tramway & Spain a few miles around (OK commute time). Where they choose really depends on their taste, financial status, and their need to be close to work, services, etc. There are excellent values in several areas of ABQ, especially in light of the current market conditions. The other posts on this question are right on the money. Four Hills at one time was where the people with high status lived. It is no longer considered quite as presitigious, but it still has nice homes. As far as convenience to the base, you could be at the closest base gate in probably less than 15 minutes or so. Four Hills is convenient to the Base, much of the housing in the area is older and in need of updating. However, there are some newer communities to the west of Four Hills that would be worth exploring as well. Also, a brand new development by RayLee/Vantage south of Central called Voltera. This area has much to offer depending on the needs, wants and spending ability of a buyer. There are some great options in SE Albuquerque for base and lab employees!

yes, I agree, it's very convenient, about 5 miles from the base, but it's very windy much of the time since it's right at the mouth of the canyon where I40 goes thru the mountains. I would NOT live there!

I live on the other side of Albuquerque. Ashley is correct, Four Hills is a convenient commute to the air base. Four Hills is also one of the better areas to live in ABQ metro. It is adjacent to hiking / biking trails and backs up to the mountains.

Cyndee - Four Hills is a great location for commuting to KAFB. It is very convenient to the Eubank or Wyoming base gates.
