Manhattan Beach is ideally located.. less then 4 miles from the airport but no airport noise. One of the reasons for the popularity of Manhattan Beach is that it is close to the LAX and to the Westside financial center in Century City and just 35 minutes from downtown Los Angeles. In LA terms, it isn't how many miles but how many minutes. Generally, the trip can be made in under 10 minutes unless it is Thanksgiving, etc, when many people are making the same trip and traffic backs up on Sepulveda. Then it might be 15. It is a great place to live for "road warriors" because they can get to the airport quickly but not have airport noise AND have great schools and beach proximity. This is part of the reason Manhattan Beach real estate is higher priced than Hermosa Beach or Redondo Beach. For more information, see our page below:

It is about 5 miles.

The route you should take depends on the time of day, due to traffic issues. If Monday through Friday, 8am to 10am and 3 to 7pm, and if you are departing from the tree section, then I prefer my secret route. The fastest route might be to take Highland Blvd northbound, which merges with Vista Del Mar, turning right onto Imperial Highway, then left on Sepulveda. Please see map 1 below.

Otherwise, you should simply take Sepulveda northbound, under the tunnel, directly to LAX. See Map 2 below.

Hi Teresa.

Manhattan beach is about 5 minutes from the Los Angeles International Airport. You don’t even need to get on the freeway to get there. Just go south on Sepulveda, pass El Segundo and you’re there.

Manhattan Beach is about two miles as the crow flies. The best thing also about MB is that you do not hear the airplanes taking off and landing like you do if you live where I do on the other side, Marina del Rey/Mar Vista.

5 min cab ride. If you live on/near the beach, you just take Highland north to Imperial Highway and that takes you to the airport. The cab ride to LAX is shorter than the ride from park-and-ride lots to LAX. Very convenient.
