House Filled With Trash!!!!
I'm in Fort Collins, CO. Can someone tell me who I'd call to haul away all this trash? I talked to Waste Management and they told me it would be, at least, $400 dollars for them to come out, leave a dumpster, and come back.
$400 dollars?!?! Can someone tell me where I can find a more reasonable price?

I second the gentleman who mentioned recycling. There is an ordinance in Fort Collins regarding eWaste disposal - you cannot dump electronics, you must recycle them.
http://www.ci.fort-collins.co.us/ewaste/ Also, if you come across anything that may be still usable, post it on Freecycle (link below). I have had lots of good luck with this and it keeps stuff out of the landfill. That would save you some money! We've seen a lot of demolition and rebuild in our area. $400 is actually a low quote.

Because I know a lot of real estate agents that work with bank owned homes, and most of the homes we market for banks start out with a lot of trash and debris in the home and yard, we are very familiar with companies that can haul away the trash at a reasonable price. In your area I would call Karen Sothoron at 970-377-3700. She can give you the name of local companies that will remove the trash.

Here's what I did with a home someone moved out of, but this was not all garbage.
I had an Estate sale (yours may not have anything of value) Then I put on craigslist, a free add, there was mass amounts of people from teachers to Daycare to just collectors of junk. Then my husband knew a company (ask a reputable contractor) who to use for the hauling of the remaining. Sometimes it pays to spend a few hours at a property for others to remove some of what you'd otherwise have to pay to remove. Thu May 8 2008, 17:09

Please have the decency to recycle what you can, and keep toxic materials out of our landfill.

You got some good alternative suggestions. But, if a roll off is what you need here is my experience. I've found the big guys to be more expensive for roll offs. Typically, the smaller (mom and pop yards) companies will come in a $100-$150 less with no 'fees'. I'm not in Fort Collins so hopefully someone there will know of an affordable waste management company. Just start calling around out of the phone book. In terms of price quoted to you my experience in southern Colorado is that price is typical with the big guys. We can usually get a 40 yard for $300-$325 total in Col. Spgs.

You can buy a giant trash bag at Home Depot, fill it, and they come to pick it up. Usually cost a fraction of the price of a big dumpster. Mon Apr 14 2008, 13:11 Web Reference: http://www.mikesclients.com

Hi Rob,
1-800-GOT-JUNK? is a great company for trash removal but they will charge. Their website ishttp:// www.1800gotjunk.com. If you have usable items that you consider junk, but may be useful to others you can post them on Craig's List under the "Free" section. Many people say things like -- Everything on the driveway is Free -- and then list a few of the items to spark interest. If nothing else it may thin out the load and lower the final junk removal price. The website ishttp:// www.craigslist.com and posting is free.
