General area - 67th Avenue just south of Van Buren
I am looking for a home to rent in south west to south central Phoenix. I found a home tht is awesome, but am concerned about the general area (67th Avenue just south of Van Buren). The subdivision seems fine, but I didn't see many similar subdivisions in the immediate area. I also saw a lot of industrial/commercial (older) development. Is anyone familiar with this area?

I agree with Steve, it is mostly an industrial area. As for rentals they are all over town. If you do not like that area you might find something elsewhere. However its hard when we do not know what you want to pay, how many bedrooms, pool, etc.. will you want?
Renting is a great choice however have you ever done the math to what you might be paying? For example. Lets say you pay $1,000 a month, in one year that's $12,000. In ten years you have dished out over $120,000. While I might be wrong most people I talked to say they would rather rent until the market stabilizes. I can only respond by saying that the market will get better, but is better to buy low and sell high. This is just an opinion. Good luck. Thu Oct 11 2007, 18:16

You are correct that that corner of Phoenix is a very industrial area. There are a number of warehouses in that area, resulting in a lot of trucking that goes up and down 67th Ave and the major streets around there, as the trucks get on and off the freeway.
I can't speak for the specific subdivision that you are referring to, but I manage 3 rental properties at 51st Ave and Southern, which is fairly close. Crossing the Salt River to the south of Van Buren, you get a more neighborhood feel, as this area is primarily converted farm land. It's only a few miles south of where you are talking about, and you may find the traffic, and general neighborhood more to your liking. Plus, Southern (as an example) offers and alternative to getting downtown when the freeway is jammed up. I do have a rental coming available right now, if you are interested in a 4 bedroom home. Something to think about anyway. Wed Oct 3 2007, 23:35 Web Reference: http://blog.101bell.com
