Family-friendly neighborhoods in the Tallahassee area; good schools

Asked by Cindylee, Destin, FL Tue Apr 17, 2012

We may be moving our family to the Tallahassee area and we know nothing about it, having never visited the area. Looking for family-friendly neighborhoods with kids, good schools, etc. Thanks.

There are a lot of great neighborhoods in Tallahassee. When I moved to Tallahassee 13 years ago I did a lot of research on schools and other parameters. At the time and still my favorite areas for family and schools is the Northeast quadrant of Tallahassee. In those areas you would look Mahan East of Capital Circle NE. The Bucklake and Chaires areas are very nice. Also many areas going North on Thomsville Rd.

I moved to Tallahassee 30 years ago and raised two children here. I was very satisfied with their education. We have choices in Tallahassee with magnet programs in many of our schools including the International Baccalaureate program. You can learn more about our school at http://www.leon.k12.fl.us/
and http://www.greatschools.org/find-schools/. There are many family friendly neighborhoods.
I love Tallahassee for it parks, trail system, family oriented events and so much move. There is so much to do. FSU has many family oriented programs - such as the science day open house offered every year. I suggest making the short trip from Destin for a visit. I would be happy to take you and your family on a tour of Tallahassee.

Tallahassee, Fl. is known for having Family Friendly neighborhoods! I moved here from Miami, Fl in 1983 with children, dogs, husband et.al. There wasn't an internet at that time! You can go to http://www.MyTallahasseeHomeSearch.com to search our multiple listing just like I do. It would be best to know where you and your husband will be working and what grades the children are in. Are you looking for private schools or Christian schools? You can check out my website http://www.EllenHicks.com to see schools with ratings. Tallahassee is Florida's best kept secret...we have rolling hills, grandfather oaks with lacey moss hanging. We are an environmentally friendly town as well. Yes, we love our trees and they are everywhere! With more information I could email or mail you all the information you need about living in Tallahassee. Regards,

Tallahassee is a wonderful place to live and to raise a family. Due to the large universities, FSU and FAMU, education is very high priority throughout the area. Plus there are a large number of parks and other recreational areas. As a matter of fact our Tom Brown Park was named as one of the best public parks in the nation. It has everything from playgrounds, to tennis courts, to dog parks, and even a Frisbee Golf Course, as well as bike paths, walking paths, and ponds.
If you would like more information, just let me know. Rick Samuelsen.
