Can you describe how Modesto looks and feels for a person that has never lived here?

Asked by Halley S., New York, NY Mon Apr 23, 2007

Do residents maintain their homes and lawns? Are there dramatic differences between different neighborhoods or zip codes? Is there a dominant architecture throughout the city?

Modesto is still an agricultural based economy, so the outskirts of town are tree farms, grapes, and other vegetation. Gallo, Foster Farms, Blue Diamond, and now that we have two hospitals, Sutter Gould and Kaiser are huge employers here. We are a large suburb with MANY trees.

Mr. Brasil answer is very well said. i agree with him as a lifelong resident. zip code wise its very hard to pinpoint exactly we have some very mixed social class areas like 95351 95350 for example. it has areas know for gang activity, and areas with very exquiste homes built in the pass centuries, with styles like victorian, queen anne and the such. then in areas like 95356 95355 95354 you have homes in the over 500k range with custom built being a popular choice. residents include drs. lawyers business owners and the such.

Modesto is a community filled with pride of ownership. Our neighborhoods range from newer track homes, character homes in the College area, large custom homes in Del Rio, Dutch Hollow and Fleur De Ville neighborhoods and older established custom homes with tree lined streets in Eastridge and Sherwood Forrest. There is something for every taste.
