Can you describe how Miami Beach looks and feels for a person that has never lived here?

Do residents maintain their homes and lawns? Are there dramatic differences between different neighborhoods or zip codes? Is there a dominant architecture throughout the city?

Miami Beach is city of contrasts, there are areas with modern buildings and areas that remained in the 60's. Properties in Miami Beach are well kept in general, regardless of the age of the property or if it's a tourist or residential area. A newcomer can feel and see the mixture of cultures, styles and way of living, a unique cocktail that you won't be able to find in any other city.
I work in South Beach and live in North Miami Beach so I cross Miami Beach from south to north everyday.

I can see by your photo why you would be concerned about maintained lawns!

Miami Beach is a fantastic and eye-appealing and awe-inspiring place. With the Intracoastal Waterways, Biscayne Bay, Canals everywhere and the magnificent Atlantic Ocean of the East, Miami Beach is truly a paradise.

Miami Beach has only about 3 zip codes that I can think of off hand. 33139, 33140 and 33141

The predominant architecture is CHANGE, Where many Art-Deco buildings have been restored or maintained, there is also a large amount of new industrial and contemporary homes also.

Miami Beach is a compilation of old and new, many wonderful aspects and benefits.

Miami Beach is a tropical oasis it is surrounded by water, Atlntic on one side and Biscayne Bay on the other. The weather is great all year round, great nightlife, dining and shopping.

Dominant architectural theme here is Art Deco...from the 1920'2 and 30's.

The ultimate Miami Beach lifestyle is all about obscene materialism, which may sound shallow, but actually works to your benefit when it comes to real estate. Everyone wants to live somewhere “cool,” so much of the property on the beach has lots of aesthetic appeal. Yards are manicured, old buildings have been restored to reflect Miami Beach’s heyday: Art Deco and MiMo architecture painted with a pastel color palette. Many of the condo towers offer luxury amenities that you can’t resist. “The combination of classic beach homes and modern, high rise condominium towers reflect the blend of big city living with a casual beach town attitude.”

People is very concerned about the appealings of their houses. Most people living here are tourists and or people who like to live where the real action is. Of course, there are different areas in the city, Each of them with a distintic characteristics and features.

Miami Beach has re-invented itself over the past decade from a 'retirement' destination to a highly sought-after home for both families, single professionals, wealthy retirees, and playboys, and playgirls, from three continents: North America, South America, and Europe. The huge old 'deco' homes in 'middle' Beach are highly sought after by local families as well as famous movie and musical stars of the world's stage, with many homes being beautifully updated. Younger professionals and the 'international set' are snapping up homes and condominiums on famed 'South Beach' as soon as they hit the market. 'North Beach' has been dubbed the NEW South Beach, many 'urban pioneers' are moving in to the older homes and condominiums and updating them to today's standard. New contruction is EVERYWHERE on Miami Beach, where ever a vacant lot and local building codes allow!
