SF Bay area

I don't think anybody mentioned Pacifica yet (suburb of SF). I'll mention it because I live here, and I see homes coming up listed right around 500 right now. Of course, I don't know what you mean by decent, but I would say they are good livable homes (not new 'executive' homes - have to go further out for that), and Pacifica is a great, safe, friendly, scenic area. Best of luck, rob.

Now you get to expand even more to the beautiful Marin county. Yes, the opportunity has never been so great for the buyers here in Marin. In Novato, the north most town in Marin, you can get a small fixer (o.k., it is a fixer), for around $500K now, almost unheard of during the last few years.

If you look at condos/townhomes, opportunity knocks, $500K can actually buy you some very nice condos/townhomes.

You will really not go wrong with investing in Marin county because it is one of the most desirable county in the Bay area due to the beautiful surroundings, green enviornment, scarce land (we love open space), wonderful schools, and close proximity to the city (to make a short list).

Give me a call if you will and we can discuss more. .

Just wanted to write in again to apologize for forgetting about the beautiful and serene cities of El Sobrante and Pinole. Thanks for suggesting these places David & Sheila! Some other places near that area that are also great include El Cerrito and there are some homes available in Albany as well in that price range. Again, sorry about that!

Investing or living, OHIO is the best now and most stable for your investment. Investment Opprtuntiy here in Columbus is fabulous! $500,000 living is luxury! Amenities and Culture are great. The only downside: JAN-APRIL Weather.

Hi Tristen,
Yes, you can. I live in West Contra Costa County, and there are safe areas here where you can get a
small 3 bedroom, 2 bath detached house for $500,000. El Sobrante is one area, Pinole is another.
Feel free to contact me if you have more questions, or if I can be of further assistance.

$500k doesn't go far in the Bay Area if you're looking for a single family home in a nice neighborhood, but if you're open to looking for condos or townhomes then you can immediately expand your search. The only homes that are not fixer uppers that are in the $500k range in the immediate Bay Area will be located in most parts of Oakland, some parts of San Leandro, and a few in Hayward.

If you are looking to buy a condo or townhouse then you get to expand your search to basically everywhere in the immediate Bay Area. If you are looking for a more suburban feel, you can find some great places in San Mateo, Burlingame, Hayward, Fremont, Sunnyvale, Mountain View to mention just a few of my more favorite spots. If you are looking for a more urban feel, you can still find condos in San Francisco for less than $500k although they will be on the small side. Emeryville, North Oakland also have condos in your price range for that type of atmosphere. Hope this helped, best of luck in your search!

$500,000 in the bay may not go as far as in most places. Love the area. Sacramento will have lots of homes in that price rang. A friend of mine, Rick Geha has a few homes on his website that are this price rang also. This team would be able to find you the home you are looking for. Go to http://www.rickandcoco.com If you looking in Southern California Corona, Riverside, San Jacinto, and a lot of other place are in this price area. In the market we are in you can find a lot of good deals. It all depends on what you are looking for. Are you looking for an investment property or a home to live in? This brings up several questions. Also have you been pre-approved for that amount? Call a few agents, interview them and pick an agent who you feel will do the best job for you. And really talk to a few different agents before you make your decision on who to work with.

Yes you can. Let us know more about where you work, what commute you will consider, what your size range needs to be as far as bedrooms, baths, parking, square feet, etc. Would you consider a condo or townhouse or a single family home? If you work in San Francisco, there are many good condo opportunities in that price range. Otherwise a manageable commute will get you a decent townhouse or possibly a single family home.
